- 1 teaspoon of sugar
- 1 teaspoon of ginger powder
- 1 cup of water
Ginger Beer Ingredients
- 250g of freshly grated ginger
- 100g of dry ginger
- 1 teaspoon of chili flakes
- 1 teaspoon of peppercorns
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 1 dessert spoon of cloves
- 1 kg of sugar
- 10 liters of water
- 1 cup lemon juice
- 2 ¼ teaspoons of yeast (baking or brewer’s yeast)
Equipment
- Funnel
- Glass jar or bowl
- Cheesecloth or mesh strainer
- Used soda and beer bottles with easy twist caps (preferably glass ones)

Fermentation Process
How to start the “bug”
- In a glass jar, combine all the ingredients and cover it up with either a cheesecloth or a loosely fitting lid.
- Make sure to toss in an extra teaspoon of sugar and ginger each day.
- After about a week, it should be ready for use. You’ll know it’s good to go when you see little bubbles popping up, all while giving off an incredible aroma wafting from the jar.
How to make your non alcoholic ginger beer
- Start by mixing up all the ingredients except for the yeast, sugar and lemon.
- Bring your mix to a gentle boil, add the sugar and stir until it is nicely dissolved.
- Turn off the heat and mix in the lemon juice along with at least 4 cups of water. Let it sit for about 2–3 hours.
- Pop it in the fridge and cool it down until it hits around 70 degrees F.
- Grab your cheesecloth or mesh strainer and strain the liquid into a clean bowl.
- Stir in your active, dry yeast.
Carbonation and bottling
- Get a funnel and pour your concoction into either a 2-liter or two 1-liter bottles, but make sure to leave about a 1 or 2-inch space at the top.
- Screw the caps on nice and tight and let them sit at room temperature.
- Over the next couple of days, make sure to gently loosen the cap now and then to let out some pressure, but be super careful and do it sloooowly.
- Once your ginger beer has finished fermenting, release the pressure one more time and then pop it into your fridge. It should be ready to drink in about a week.

Tips for Limiting the Alcohol Level
All fermentable drinks will contain minimal alcohol, but here are some tips to make your recipe for ginger beer non alcoholic, even more alco-free:
- For a super low-alcohol spin on your ginger beer (we’re talking less than 0.5%), just toss in ¼ cup of sugar and cut the fermentation time to just 1 week.
- After it’s cooled down, add your yeast, give it a good stir, and let it sit for just 30 minutes before bottling it up with your usual carbonation drops.
- Since the fermentation is incomplete, those bottles might get extra bubbly. So, as soon as you hit that perfect sparkle, it should go straight into the fridge.
A Foolproof Recipe for Ginger Beer Non Alcoholic
Often, the ginger beer recipes non-alcoholic you’ll find have a hint of alcohol, so if you’ve got teetotalers in the mix, then this alcohol-free version is a winner. When it’s time to serve, dress it up with some mint leaves and lemon slices, pop it in the fridge, and get ready to savor every sip!
